Bishop of Melaka-Johor
Bishop Anthony Bernard Paul, Bishop of Melaka-Johor, was born on July 6, 1953, in Alor Setar, in the Diocese of Penang. He entered the diocesan minor seminary and then worked for a short time as a teacher in a local school. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the major seminary of Penang. He was ordained a priest for Penang on July 21, 1989. He then served as parochial vicar of St. Francis Xavier in Melaka (1989-1992); parish priest of St. Mary at Tapah (1992-1995); parish priest of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Butterworth (1995-1998); diocesan head of vocations (1996-1997); vicar general of Penang (1997-2000); parish administrator of the Immaculate Conception parish in Penang and of the Sacred Heart at Kulim, Kedah (1998-1999); parish priest of the Sacred Heart at Kulim (1999-2005); and parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes at Sibilin, Ipoh (2005-2010). From 2010 he served as parish priest of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Penang, and from 2012 as vicar for pastoral care. On November 19, 2015, he was appointed Bishop of Melaka-Johor. He received episcopal ordination on January 12, 2016, with Paul Tan Chee Ing as principal consecrator and Julian Leow Beng Kim and Sebastian Francis as co-consecrators. His episcopal motto is "Take Bless Break Give".
