Abbot of Montevergine
Abbot Riccardo Luca Guariglia, O.S.B., Abbot of Montevergine, was born on March 2, 1967, in Santa Maria di Castellabate, in the Diocese of Vallo della Lucania. He entered the monastery on February 26, 1992, and began his canonical novitiate on August 14 of the same year. He made his first profession on October 18, 1993, and his solemn profession in 1997. After his philosophical and theological studies at the Madonna delle Grazie Theological Institute of Benevento, he was ordained a priest on April 29, 2000, by Bishop Francesco Pio Tamburrino, formerly Abbot of Montevergine. In 2001 he began the course of studies in sacred liturgy at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute of Sant'Anselmo in Rome, where he obtained a licentiate. In 2004 he was appointed bursar of the monastic community, and from 2006 he has lectured in fundamental liturgy at the Madonna delle Grazie Theological Institute of Benevento. In 2009 he was appointed claustral prior and master of novices of the monastic community of Montevergine, and he has also served as councillor of the visitor of the Italian province of the Subiaco-Cassinese Benedictine Congregation. On September 20, 2014, he was appointed Abbot of Montevergine.
