Bishop of Nelson
Gregory John Bittman is Bishop of Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. Gregory Bittman was born on 5 March 1961 in Edmonton, Alberta. He received his initial formation at the Benedictine Seminary of Christ the King in Mission, British Columbia, where he obtained the Master of Divinity. He later worked at the hospital in Edmonton as a nurse. Continuing his studies, he obtained a licentiate in canon law at The Catholic University of America. He was ordained a priest on 15 August 1996. After ordination, he held the following offices: administrator of Sacred Heart Parish in Gibbons (1996-1997); pastor of Our Lady of the Prairies in Daysland (1997-1999); pastor of Christ King in Settler and Our Lady of Grace in Castor (1999-2000); pastor of Saint Agnes and Saint Anthony (2000-2001); chancellor of the Archdiocese of Edmonton and member of the college of consultors (2000). From 2009 he was judicial vicar.
