Bishop of Owensboro
William F. Medley was born on September 17, 1952, in Loretto, in the Archdiocese of Louisville (Kentucky). After elementary school, he attended Saint Thomas Seminary in Louisville and subsequently pursued philosophical and theological studies at Saint Meinrad School of Theology in St. Meinrad (Indiana). He was ordained a priest on May 22, 1982, for the Archdiocese of Louisville. Within the Archdiocese of Louisville, he held the following positions: Associate Pastor of Saint Pius X Parish (1982–1985) and of the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville (1985–1988); Chaplain of Assumption High School (1983–1985) and of University Hospital (1985–1988) in Louisville; Pastor of Saint Martin de Porres Parish (1990–1993)—which he founded by merging Saint Charles Borromeo Parish, Holy Cross Parish, and Saint Benedict Parish in Louisville, having previously served as their Parish Administrator (1988–1990); Diocesan Director of the Office of Clergy Personnel (1989–1993); Parish Administrator of Saint Monica Parish in Bardstown (1993–1996); Pastor of the Basilica of Saint Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown (1993–2005); Pastor of Mother of Good Counsel Parish in Louisville (2005–2008); and Pastor of Saint Bernadette Parish in Louisville (2008–present). Additionally, he is a member of the College of Consultors.
