Bishop of Palai (Syro-Malabar)
Joseph Kallarangatt was born on November 29, 1956, in Kayyoor, in the Eparchy of Palai. He completed his ecclesiastical studies at St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary in Alwaye. He was ordained a priest for the Eparchy of Palai on January 2, 1982. He served as a parish vicar for two years, and in 1984, he was sent to Rome to continue his studies, obtaining a Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. Upon his return, he was appointed professor at the Paurastya Vidyapitham Faculty of Theology at St. Joseph Apostolic Seminary in Vadavathoor, Kottayam, where he continues to teach. For the past four years, he has served as President of the Pontifical Institute of Religious Studies (Paurastya Vidyapitham) in Vadavathoor, Kottayam.
