Archbishop Ivan Maffeis

The Holy Father has appointed Ivan Maffeis—a priest of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Trento who until now served as parish priest in Rovereto, Trambileno, Vanza, Noriglio, and Terragnolo—as Metropolitan Archbishop of Perugia-Città della Pieve. Msgr. Ivan Maffeis was born on November 18, 1963, in Pinzolo, in the province and Archdiocese of Trento. After completing his secondary and philosophical-theological studies at the Archdiocesan Seminary of Trento, he was ordained a priest on June 26, 1988, for the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Trento. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: Parochial Vicar in Mori (1988–1990); Doctorate in Social Communication Sciences at the Pontifical Salesian University (1990–1994); Parish Priest in Trento (1994–2000); Seminary Lecturer (1994–2009); Diocesan Assistant for Catholic Action (2000–2002); Director of the diocesan weekly *Vita Trentina* and the diocesan radio station (2001–2009); Deputy Director of the CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference) Office for Social Communications (2010–2015) and Head of Personnel (2012–2020); Director of the Office for Social Communications (2015–2019) and Under-Secretary of the CEI (2015–2020). Since 2017, he has also served as a Consultor for the Dicastery for Communication. Since 2010, he has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Pontifical Salesian University and at the Pontifical Lateran University. Until now, he served as parish priest for the communities of Rovereto (San Marco and Holy Family), Trambileno, Vanza, Noriglio, and Terragnolo.
