Bishop Joaquín Humberto Pinzón Güiza

Monsignor Joaquín Humberto Pinzón Güiza was born on July 3, 1969, in Berbeo (Santander), in the Diocese of Vélez, the son of María Resurrección Güiza and Aquileo Pinzón. He completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown, entered the Consolata Missionaries Institute, and pursued philosophy studies at the Pastoral Center for Philosophy (CEPAF) in Bogotá (1987–1989). He undertook his novitiate in Bucaramanga in 1990, making his first religious profession on January 6, 1991. Sent to the Consolata Missionaries' International Theologate in Madrid (Spain), he studied theology at the Pontifical University of Comillas (1991–1994); subsequently, he was sent for a missionary experience in Mozambique (1994–1996) and obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome (1996–1999). He made his perpetual profession on July 5, 1997, and was ordained a priest in Bogotá on August 7, 1999. He served as Rector of the Consolata Missionaries' International Theological Seminary in Bogotá (2005–2009), Professor of Sacred Scripture at the San Alfonso University Foundation in Bogotá (2007–2009), and Regional Superior of the Consolata Missionaries for Colombia and Ecuador (2011–2013). On February 21, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Msgr. Joaquín Humberto Pinzón Güiza—then Regional Superior of the Consolata Fathers in Colombia-Ecuador—as the first Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Leguízamo-Solano and Titular Bishop of Ottocium. On April 20, 2013, at the Primatial Cathedral of Colombia, he received episcopal ordination from the Archbishop of Tunja, Msgr. Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga (principal consecrator), assisted by Cardinal Rubén Salazar Gómez, Archbishop of Bogotá, and Msgr. Francisco Javier Múnera Correa, Apostolic Vicar of San Vicente-Puerto Leguízamo. On May 4, 2013, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the municipality of Puerto Leguízamo, Msgr. Pinzón Güiza took canonical possession of the new vicariate.
