Archbishop Adam Szal

Archbishop Adam Szal, Archbishop of Przemyśl, was born on December 24, 1953, at Wysoka, near Łańcut, in the Archdiocese of Przemyśl of the Latins. He made his theological studies at the seminary of Przemyśl of the Latins, and he was ordained a priest on May 31, 1979, being incardinated in that archdiocese. He served as vicar in the parishes of Lutcza, now in the Diocese of Rzeszów, of Krosno and of Przeworsk. From 1983 to 1987 he pursued specialized studies in church history at the Catholic University of Lublin, where he obtained a doctorate, and from 1987 he was a lecturer in church history at the archdiocesan major seminary of Przemyśl of the Latins. He was librarian of the archdiocesan seminary from 1988 to 1994 and its prefect of discipline from 1991 to 1994, and in 1996 he was appointed its rector, an office he still held at the time of his episcopal appointment. On November 16, 2000, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Przemyśl of the Latins and Titular Bishop of Lavello. He received episcopal ordination on December 23, 2000, at Przemyśl. On April 30, 2016, he was appointed Archbishop of Przemyśl.
