Bishop of Reykjavik
David Tencer, O.F.M. Cap., was born on May 18, 1963, in Nová Baňa (Slovakia). He pursued his theological studies at the University of Bratislava and at the seminary of the same diocese. He was ordained a priest on June 15, 1986, and incardinated into the clergy of the Diocese of Banská Bystrica. Subsequently, he served for four years as an assistant parish priest. In 1990, he entered the Slovak Province of the Capuchins. After his novitiate, he continued his studies in Rome, obtaining a Licentiate in Theology in 1994. He made his solemn profession on August 28, 1994. Later, he served as parish priest in Holíč before being sent to Hriňová in 1996 to found a new friary; this location subsequently became the formation center for Capuchin postulants, with David Tencer serving as Rector—a role he held until 2002. In 2003, he was appointed Superior of the friary in Žilina. Finally, in 2004, he moved to Iceland to engage in missionary work and establish a Capuchin presence. He began as Vicar of Stella Maris in Reykjavík before becoming parish priest of St. Þórlákur in Reyðarfjörður, a position he still holds.
