Altar Servers

Liturgical

Altar Servers provide an important liturgical function by assisting the clergy before, during, and after the liturgy, and serving as prayer leaders for the congregation. Mature boys and girls who have received their 1st Holy Communion are eligible and must attend one training session and complete a mentoring process prior to beginning their ministry.

Arts & Environment

Other

Volunteers ensure that the church is decorated each week according to the season and celebrations of the Church calendar. Volunteers are needed to help water and maintain green plants and alter arrangements each week and to help decorate the Church for Christmas and Easter.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Liturgical

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is held every Sunday during the 11:00 AM Mass for children ages 3 to 7. Children from the congregation are invited to gather and are then led out by two facilitators to a room where they participate in the Liturgy of the Word using the Children’s Lectionary and other materials. Training is available for those who wish to serve in this ministry through our Office of Faith Formation. All volunteers must be VIRTUS trained.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist

Other

This lay ministry distributes the Blessed Sacrament to our assemblies and prepares the Sacred Vessels prior to Mass as well as washes, dries, and puts away vessels after Mass. All individuals who are confirmed and at least 16 years of age are invited to participate in this ministry.

Grounds & Maintenance

Other

The CTK Church grounds ministry is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the church grounds and the rectory yard. The maintenance ministry co-ordinates repairs and maintenance of our buildings.

Justice and Peace

Social Justice & Outreach

The Justice and Peace Committee is the avenue by which our parish has helped those in need in our community and the world. Our mission is to identify needs that our parish can meet, encourage our parishioners to volunteer their time and resources, and to inform the parish about issues of social concern and justice.

Knights of Columbus

Fraternal & Service

Join with other Catholic men in an organization of those devoted to the Church, charity, fraternity, and patriotism. Meetings are held at the Knights of Columbus, Council 367, located at 5201 Kennebeck Avenue, Norfolk on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM.

Legion of Mary

Prayer & Devotional

The Legion of Mary is an association of Catholic Laity who serve the Church on a volunteer basis. They meet every Tuesday at 7:15 P.M. in Ashland House. Their desire is to fulfill their baptismal promises and to be able to live their dedication to Mary and the Church in an organized structure supported by prayer and fraternity. All are welcome.

Middle School Youth Group

Youth & Young Adult

Our Middle School Youth Group is open to all youth in Grades 6 to 8. We typically meet once a month. We gather in Ashland House (1802 Ashland Avenue) for many types of activities including games, movies, faith sharing and fellowship. We also participate in regional, diocesan and national events throughout the year. Please contact the church office for more information.

Music Ministry

Members of this ministry work to enhance our worship with appropriate hymns, prayers, and responses. All are welcome to join our choir. Weekly practices are held every Sunday 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Church. Opportunities for participation include: choir member, cantor and being an instrumentalist.

Christ the King is a vibrant community where we minister to each other by reaching out to serve each other’s needs, sharing our common journey together or celebrating the gifts we have to offer one another. Members help to organize parish social events throughout the year.

Readers

Other

Lectors read the parish announcements, the scripture, and the Prayers of the Faithful from the pulpit. They are provided with a Gospel Workbook and are asked to prepare for their assigned reading prior to Mass. All individuals who are confirmed are invited to participate in this ministry.

Sacristan

Volunteers collect and carefully wash purificators and other linens used for Mass each week.

Scouting

Other

All young people are invited to participate in our very active scouting program. Adults are also invited to help on the Scouting Committee. All adult volunteers must be VIRTUS trained.

Ushers

Hospitality

Ushers and Junior Ushers (Fifth grade and older) serve the parish community by greeting people as they arrive, escorting people to their seats, gathering and securing the collection, assisting in taking gifts to the altar, guiding the flow of communicants as they approach the Eucharistic Ministers and handing out bulletins at the conclusion of Sunday Mass.

Women’s Ministry

Other

They assist the priest, coordinate and unify the work of the Apostolate in our parish, and serve our community by leading and/or assisting with our many parish sponsored charity programs. They promote fellowship among women through crafting, tea parties, sharing their faith, and other social events.
