Archbishop Vincent Aind

Archbishop-elect Vincent Aind was born on 30 January 1955 in Kalchini, West Bengal, in the Diocese of Jalpaiguri. He studied philosophy at Morning Star Regional Seminary in Barrackpore, Calcutta, and theology at St. Joseph's Seminary in Mangalore. He obtained a Master of Arts in English Literature from North Bengal University in Calcutta, a bachelor's degree in Economics from St. Joseph's College in Darjeeling, a licentiate in Philosophy from Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth in Pune, and a doctorate in Philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 30 April 1984 for the Diocese of Jalpaiguri. After priestly ordination he held the following assignments: from 1984 to 1985, parish vicar of Christ the King Parish, Damanpur, Diocese of Jalpaiguri; from 1985 to 1987, doctoral studies in Philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome; from 1987, lecturer in Philosophy at Morning Star Regional Seminary, Barrackpore; from 1995 to 2000, spiritual director at Morning Star Regional Seminary; from 2001 to 2004, rector of Morning Star Regional Seminary; from 2004 to 2007, parish priest of St. Lucy's Parish - Jyoti Ashram, Chalsa, Diocese of Jalpaiguri; and from 2007, lecturer and dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of Morning Star Regional Seminary and principal of Morning Star College. From 2007 he was also diocesan consultor and member of the Council for Economic Affairs of the Diocese of Jalpaiguri, as well as regional secretary of the Commission for Clergy, Religious and Seminaries of the West Bengal Regional Episcopal Conference. He was appointed Bishop of Bagdogra on 7 April 2015 and received episcopal consecration on 14 June 2015.
