Bishop of Rockford
David John Malloy was born on February 3, 1956, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Marquette University (1978). After completing one year of theology at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary in Milwaukee, he pursued theological studies at the Pontifical North American College and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1979–1982). Subsequently, he obtained a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology, also from the Gregorian University (1982–1984). Later, he entered the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy and earned a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Angelicum (1986–1988) and a Doctorate from the Gregorian University (1988–1990). He was ordained a priest on July 1, 1983, for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Following his ordination, he served as parochial vicar at Saint John Nepomuk Parish in Racine (1984–1986). In the diplomatic service, he served as Secretary at the Apostolic Nunciature in Pakistan (1990–1994), the Nunciature in Syria (1995), and the United Nations (1995–1998), and worked as an official at the Prefecture of the Papal Household in the Vatican (1998–2001). Upon returning to the United States, he served as Associate General Secretary of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (2001–2006) and subsequently as General Secretary of the Conference (2006–2011). Since 2011, he has served as pastor of Saint Francis de Sales Parish in Lake Geneva, within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. On October 28, 2000, he was named a Prelate of Honor of His Holiness. In addition to English, he speaks Italian, Spanish, and French.
