Bishop Giovanni Cefai

Giovanni Cefai is Apostolic Administrator of Juli, Peru. The official Peruvian Episcopal Conference source describes the new bishop-elect as born in 1967 in Żebbuġ, Malta, Europe, and ordained a priest in 1997. He holds a licentiate in pastoral theology from the University of Malta. In his pastoral ministry, among other roles, he served as director of the De Piro youth center in Malta; in Peru he was parish priest of Santa Cruz in Arequipa and, at the time of the source, of San Pablo Apóstol, as well as regional superior of the Missionary Society of Saint Paul in Peru. The territory of the new Territorial Prelature of Santiago Apóstol de Huancané was formed by the districts of Conima, Huayrapata, Moho, and Tilali, which form part of the province of Moho; Alto Inambari, Cuyocuyo, Patambuco, Quiaca, San Juan del Oro, San Pedro de Putinapunco, Sandia, and Yanahuaya, which form part of the province of Sandia; Ananea, Quilcapuncy, and Sina, which form part of the province of San Antonio de Putina; and Huancané, Cojata, Inchupalla, Pusi, Rosaspata, Vilque Chico, and Taraco, which form part of the province of Huancané. The cathedral of the new territorial prelature was to be the parish church of Santiago Apóstol de Huancané in Huancané.
