Bishop Casimiro López Llorente

Casimiro López Llorente was born on November 10, 1950, in El Burgo de Osma (Soria). He pursued classical and philosophical studies at the Osma-Soria Diocesan Seminary. In 1973, he obtained a Licentiate in Theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca. He was ordained a priest at the Cathedral of El Burgo de Osma on April 5, 1975. He spent the early years of his priestly ministry in Germany while studying Canon Law at the *Kanonistisches Institut* (Institute of Canon Law) of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich; there, he earned his Licentiate in 1979 and completed the coursework for a doctorate in the same discipline. During this period (1975–1986), he served as a chaplain to religious sisters and was responsible for the pastoral care of migrants in the country. Additionally, from 1977 to 1985, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Canon Law at the University of Munich. Upon returning to Spain and his home diocese, Msgr. López Llorente held several positions: Professor of Dogmatic Theology, Moral Theology, and Canon Law at the Diocesan Seminary; Promoter of Justice and Defender of the Bond (1986–1993); Parish Administrator of Berzosa and pastor in charge of Valdealbín and Valdegrulla (1986–2000); Doctoral Canon and Secretary of the Cathedral Chapter of Osma-Soria (1987–2000); Rector of the Diocesan Seminary (1988–1993); Vicar General (1993–1995); Diocesan Administrator during the *sede vacante* (1995–1996); Vicar General (1995–2000); and Judicial Vicar, Episcopal Delegate for Ecumenism, and person in charge of the Cathedral's museums and artistic heritage (1998–2000). On February 2, 2001, he was appointed Bishop of Zamora. He received episcopal ordination on March 25, 2001. His appointment as Bishop of Segorbe-Castellón was announced on April 25, 2006. On June 23 of the same year, he took possession of the diocese.
