Bishop Edgar Cuntapay Gacutan, C.I.C.M., Bishop of Sendai, was born on September 23, 1964, in Enrile, Japan, in the Diocese of Tuguegarao. He made his first profession on October 19, 1986, and made his perpetual profession on June 2, 1991. He was ordained a priest for the same institute on April 23, 1994, in Enrile. On December 8, 2021, he was appointed Bishop of Sendai. He received episcopal ordination on March 19, 2022, at Sendai, with Tarcisio Isao Kikuchi S.V.D. as principal consecrator and Michael Gorō Matsuura and Mario Michiaki Yamanouchi S.D.B. as co-consecrators. He is a member of Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
