Archbishop Hugo Alberto Torres Marín

Monsignor Hugo Alberto Torres Marín was born in Briceño (Antioquia, Diocese of Santa Rosa de Osos) on August 9, 1960, to Francisco José Torres and Judith Marín Zuluaga. After completing his primary education, he attended secondary school at the Minor Seminary of Santa Rosa de Osos. He studied philosophy and theology at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary within the same diocese. Following his ordination as a priest, he obtained a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He also pursued studies in philosophy and religious education at the Catholic University of the East (Universidad Católica de Oriente) in Rionegro, as well as studies in senior management—specializing in virtual pedagogy—at the University of Medellín. On November 24, 1987, he was ordained a priest by His Excellency Monsignor Joaquín García Ordoñez, then Bishop of Santa Rosa de Osos. In the exercise of his priestly ministry within this diocese, he has held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of the Rosary in Donmatías (1988); Professor at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary (1989–1992); Vice-Rector, Academic Director, and team member at the Catholic University of the North Foundation (2000–2001; 2005–2007); Rector of the Catholic University of the North Foundation (2001–2004); Vicar for Pastoral Affairs and Parish Priest in Valdivia (2008); and Rector of the Saint Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary (2009). Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Medellín on May 4, 2011, and he received episcopal ordination on June 4 of that same year. On October 9, 2014, Pope Francis designated him Apostolic Administrator of Apartadó. On September 29, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Apartadó. On January 25, 2023—the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul—Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe de Antioquia. He begins his episcopal ministry in that metropolitan see on March 23 of the same year.
