Bishop of Shinyanga
Liberatus Sangu, of the clergy of Sumbawanga, was born on February 19, 1963, in Mwazye, in the Diocese of Sumbawanga (Tanzania). After completing his primary and secondary education at local schools, he pursued philosophy studies at the Our Lady of Angels Major Seminary in Kibosho (Diocese of Moshi) and theology studies at the St. Charles Lwanga Inter-diocesan Major Seminary in Segerea (Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam). He was ordained a priest on July 9, 1994. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1994–1995: Formator at the Kaengesa Minor Seminary in Sumbawanga; 1995–1996: Parish Priest of Matai; 1996–1999: Studies for a Licentiate in Sacramental Theology at the Pontifical Atheneum of Saint Anselm, Rome; 1999–2000: Priest-in-charge of Mwazye Parish; 2000–2007: Diocesan Director of Vocations, Formator at the Propaedeutic Seminary, and Head of Youth Ministry; 2007–2008: Interim Parish Priest of Sopa. Since 2008, he has served at the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
