Bishop of Shendam
Philip Davou Dung was born on August 19, 1958, at Kuru Station, in the Archdiocese of Jos. After attending primary school, he entered St. John Vianney Minor Seminary in Barkin Ladi (1973–1977). He underwent a year of spiritual formation at the National Missionary Seminary in Iperu-Remu and pursued studies in Philosophy and Theology at St. Augustine’s Major Seminary in Jos (1978–1984). He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Jos on November 24, 1984. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1984–1985: Parochial Vicar of St. John’s Parish, Bauchi; 1985–1987: Parish Priest of St. Patrick’s Parish, Akwanga; 1987–1989: Parish Priest of St. Jerome’s Parish, Amper; 1989–1991: Parish Priest of St. James Parish, Gombe; 1991–1992: Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of Jos; 1992–1994: Studies in Moral Theology at the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy, Rome; 1994: Parochial Vicar of St. Louis Parish, Jos; 1994–1999: Parish Priest of St. Michael’s Parish, Nassarawa Gwong, and again Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of Jos; 1999–2002: Dean of Studies at St. Augustine’s Major Seminary, Jos; 2002–2004: Parish Priest of the Church of the Assumption Parish, Jos; 2003–2010: Vice-President of the Presbyteral Council of the Archdiocese of Jos; 2005–2006: Parish Priest of St. Peter’s Parish, Kabong; From 2006: Parish Priest of St. Murumba Parish, Jos; from 2007: Member of the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese of Jos; from 2010: Treasurer of the Archdiocese of Jos; Currently: Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Parish, Du, in the Archdiocese of Jos.
