Bishop Samuel Oton Sidin

Bishop Samuel Oton Sidin, O.F.M.Cap., Apostolic Administrator of Pontianak, was born on December 12, 1954, in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. After primary school he attended the minor seminary of Nyarumkop. Having entered the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin in 1977, he completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Interdiocesan Major Seminary of Pematangsiantar in Medan, Sumatra. He made his perpetual vows on July 18, 1982, and was ordained a priest on July 1, 1984. He then served as parochial vicar at Nyarumkop (1984-1985); a student for a degree in spirituality at the Antonianum in Rome (1985-1990); assistant master of novices (1990-1993); master of novices (1993-1997); minister of the Capuchin province of Pontianak (1997-2003); director of the Rumah Pelangi house and head of a forest conservation project (2003-2008); again minister of the Capuchin province of Pontianak (2009-2012); and from 2012 parish priest of St. Francis of Assisi parish at Tebet, Jakarta. On December 21, 2016, he was appointed Bishop of Sintang. He received episcopal ordination on March 22, 2017, at Sintang, with Agustinus Agus as principal consecrator and Pius Riana Prapdi and Giulio Mencuccini as co-consecrators. On August 30, 2025, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Pontianak.
