Archbishop José Rafael Quirós Quirós

José Rafael Quirós Quirós was born in Llano Grande, in the Diocese of Cartago, on May 1, 1955. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Central Major Seminary in San José. He obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on March 5, 1981, for the clergy of the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica. As a priest, he subsequently held the following pastoral roles: Parochial Vicar of Santa Teresita del Niño Jesús in San José, formator at the Central Seminary in San José, Deputy Judicial Vicar of the Provincial Ecclesiastical Tribunal, Professor of Canon Law at the Central Seminary in San José and the Catholic University of Costa Rica, Chaplain of the *Fuerza Pública* (Public Force), Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference of Costa Rica, and Vicar General of the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica. On December 2, 2005, he was appointed Bishop of Limón, and on February 22, 2006, he received episcopal ordination.
