Bishop of San Miniato
The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Giovanni Paccosi—a priest of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Florence and the person responsible for Latin America for the Communion and Liberation Fraternity—as Bishop of San Miniato. Msgr. Paccosi was born on June 2, 1960, in Florence. After joining the Communion and Liberation movement, he attended the Archbishop's Seminary of Florence. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Florence on April 4, 1985. He held the following positions: parochial vicar at S. Maria in Scandicci (1985–1988) and at S. Maria in Novoli, Florence (1988–1989); and parish priest of San Martino a Strada in Bagno a Ripoli (1989–1996) and of S. Maria a Coverciano (1996–2001). In 2001, he was sent as a *fidei donum* priest to the Diocese of Carabayllo (Lima district, Peru), where he served as parish priest of Santa María de la Reconciliación, head of university pastoral care at the Universidad Católica “Sedes Sapientiae” in Carabayllo, lecturer and coordinator of the Anthropology and Theology Department, and person responsible for the formation of young clergy in the Diocese of Carabayllo. He subsequently obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical and Civil Faculty of Theology of Lima (2005), a Licentiate in Secondary Education specializing in Philosophy and Religion from the Universidad Católica “Sedes Sapientiae” (2006), and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Theological Faculty of Central Italy (2015). Upon returning to Italy in 2016, he became parish priest of Gesù Buon Pastore in Casellina, Scandicci. In recent years, he has also served as Director of the Diocesan Office for Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage and Buildings for Worship, Honorary Canon of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Care, and a member of the College of Consultors. Since 2022, he has been the person in charge of the Communion and Liberation Fraternity for Latin America.
