Bishop of San Pedro de Macorís
Santiago Rodríguez Rodríguez was born on May 25, 1968, in Mamey, Los Hidalgos, in the Diocese of Puerto Plata. In 1985, he entered the National Major Seminary in Santo Domingo, where he completed his initial formation, culminating in his ordination as a priest for the Diocese of Puerto Plata on June 24, 2000. In Rome, he obtained a Licentiate in Moral Theology from the Alphonsian Academy and a Master’s degree in Bioethics from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, as well as advanced diplomas from pastoral institutes in Colombia and the Dominican Republic. Among the various roles he has held are: seminary lecturer and formator (2001–2014); university chaplain (2000–2007); and diocesan head of family and pro-life pastoral care, serving two terms (2000–2007 and 2010–2014). He currently serves as Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Care (since 2014), Pastor of “San Marcos” parish (since 2012), Judge at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal (since 2009), military chaplain (since 2007), and Professor of Bioethics at the “Madre y Maestra” Catholic University in Santo Domingo (since 2001).
