Bishop of Syracuse
Douglas Lucia was born on March 17, 1963, in Plattsburgh, in the Diocese of Ogdensburg (New York). He attended Northern Adirondack High School in Ellenburg Depot, New York (1977–1981). Upon entering the seminary, he pursued ecclesiastical studies at Wadhams Hall Seminary College in Ogdensburg (1981–1985) and subsequently at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, New York, in the Diocese of Buffalo (1985–1989). Later, he obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law from the University of Saint Thomas in Rome (1997–1999). He was ordained a priest on May 20, 1989, for the Diocese of Ogdensburg. Following his ordination, he held the following positions within the diocese: Parochial Vicar at Saint Patrick Parish in Watertown (1989–1990), Saint Columban Parish in Cornwall, Ontario (Canada), Saint John Parish in Plattsburgh (1992–1995), and Saint Mary Cathedral (1995–1997); Administrator of Saint Mary Parish in Canton, Assistant Secretary of the Diocesan Tribunal, and Chaplain at the Gouverneur Correctional Facility (1999–2000); Private Secretary to the Bishop and Vice-Chancellor (2000–2003); Adjunct Judicial Vicar (2000–2017); Director of Vocations (2003–2019) and Director of Seminarians (2005–2019); Chancellor and Episcopal Vicar for Diocesan Services (2004–2010); Pastor of Saint John Parish in Morristown, Saint Peter Parish in Hammond, and Saint Patrick Parish in Rossie (2006–2008), and of Saint Mary Parish in Canton (2008–2017); Episcopal Vicar for Worship and Priestly Formation (2010–2017); Pastor of Saint Mary Parish in Waddington and Saint John the Baptist in Madrid, and Judicial Vicar (2017–2019). In addition to English, he speaks Spanish, Italian, and French.
