Prelate of Tefé
José Altevir da Silva, C.S.Sp., is Prelate of Tefé, Amazonas, Brazil. He was born on 30 November 1962 in Ipixuna, Diocese of Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre. He studied Philosophy at the Interdiocesan Seminary of Manaus from 1983 to 1984 and Theology at the Major Seminary of São Paulo from 1987 to 1989 and in 1992. He was also a missionary in Nigeria from 1990 to 1991. He made perpetual vows on 18 November 1989 in the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, for which he was ordained a priest on 6 December 1992. In the course of his priestly ministry he held the following roles: pastoral service in Belo Horizonte and Vilhena from 1993 to 2002; formator of students of Philosophy and Theology in the Padre Laval Community at Jardim Planalto, São Paulo, from 2002 to 2008; executive secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Missionary Action and Interecclesial Cooperation of the Brazilian Episcopal Conference from 2008 to 2012; and provincial superior of the Province of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in Brazil, based in São Paulo, from 2012 to 2017. On 27 September 2017 he was appointed Bishop of Cametá, and his episcopal ordination took place on the following 16 December.
