Bishop of Cefalù
The Pope has appointed Msgr. Giuseppe Marciante as Bishop of Cefalù, transferring him from the titular see of Tagora and the office of Auxiliary Bishop of Rome. Msgr. Marciante was born in Catania on July 16, 1951. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the San Paolo Theological Institute in Catania and obtained a Licentiate in Missiology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was ordained a priest on October 5, 1980, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Catania. On July 1, 1993, he was incardinated into the Diocese of Rome. In the Archdiocese of Catania, he served as Parochial Vicar of Santa Maria in Ognina (1980–1986) and Santa Maria in Cibali (1986–1987). He subsequently served as Parish Priest of San Giuseppe in the Diocese of Albano (1987–1989). Finally, in the Diocese of Rome, he served as Parish Priest of San Romano Martire (1989–2009), Prefect of the 12th Prefecture of Rome (1995–2009), and a member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Rome (2008–2009). From 1998 to 2009, he served as the National Ecclesiastical Assistant for the "Fratres" blood donor association. In 2001, he was named a Chaplain of His Holiness. Appointed Titular Bishop of Tagora and Auxiliary Bishop of Rome on June 1, 2009, he received episcopal consecration on July 11 of that year. In the Diocese of Rome, he was entrusted with the pastoral care of the Eastern Sector.
