Archbishop of Chihuahua
Archbishop Constancio Miranda Weckmann, Archbishop of Chihuahua, was born on September 15, 1952, in Las Cruces, in the Diocese of Cuauhtémoc-Madera. Having completed his humanistic studies, he entered the seminary of Ciudad Juárez, where he studied philosophy, and then moved to the northern regional seminary in the city of Chihuahua as a student of theology. He was ordained a priest on September 30, 1977, in Madera. For a decade he exercised pastoral ministry in various parishes of the then Prelature of Madera. In 1987 he was sent to Rome to attend courses in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy, where he obtained a licentiate in moral theology in 1989. On returning from Rome he exercised his priestly ministry in his own diocese, where he served as vicar general, a member of the college of consultors and of the presbyteral council, and finally diocesan administrator. On June 27, 1998, he was appointed Bishop of Atlacomulco, and he received episcopal ordination on August 4, 1998, at Atlacomulco. On September 29, 2009, he was appointed Archbishop of Chihuahua. Within the Mexican Episcopal Conference he has been responsible for the sectors for vocations and ministries and for the protection of the social security of priests.
