Altar Decoration and Flowers

Liturgical

Provide for the fitting adornment of the Sanctuary.

Altar Servers/Acolytes

Liturgical

Servers assist the Priest at the altar during the liturgical celebration. Both male and female adults, Young Adults and children are welcome.

Bereavement Committee

Health & Wellness

St. Benedict parish offers Bereavement Ministry to individuals and families. Bereavement volunteers attend funerals, greet people, hand out programs, join in prayers, assist in planning funeral liturgy, conduct Wake Services and the Graveside Rite, plan the annual All Souls Day memorial mass, and provide follow-up contact to families.

Bible/Scripture Study

Discussion of the Sunday readings, and the Scriptures in general, and how they connect to our lives. Meets on Wednesdays at 7pm in the meeting room of St. Benedict the Moor.

Call to Worship

Call the Congregation to order and introduce the celebrants before the Eucharist Celebration begins.

Choir

Liturgical

The Choir provides musical leadership primarily for the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass, as well as for special Feasts and parish celebrations. The choir practices on Saturdays at 11 AM, year round.

Eucharistic Distributors/Extraordinary Ministers of Communion

Liturgical

Eucharistic Ministers assist in the distribution of the Precious Body and Blood of our Lord at each liturgy.

Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliaries

Fraternal & Service

The Knights of Peter Claver, Inc. is the largest historically African-American Catholic lay organization in the United States. Named for St. Peter Claver, the Spanish Priest who ministered to African slaves. Purpose is to render service to God and His Holy Church, render aid and assistance to the sick and disabled, and promote social and intellectual association among members. Junior Division welcomes Catholic youth ages 7-18.

Lectors/Readers

Liturgical

Looks for those who can speak well, and are willing to invest some time preparing for the proclamation of the Word of God at our liturgical celebrations.

Men's Group

Fraternal & Service

All men of our church community are automatically members of the group. The group meets bi-monthly. Men serve as Eucharistic ministers, lectors, sacristy workers, ushers and sing in the choir. Devoted to promoting and furthering Christ's work throughout the community through prayer, education, financial support and active participation in church activities.

Offertory Gift Bearers

Liturgical

Provide this ministry at a particular liturgy by informing the usher at the door of the Church or calling the parish office.

Pastoral Visitation

Health & Wellness

Once-a-month or weekly visits to the sick and the home bound. Volunteers needed for friendly visits and distribution of communion to shut-in and nursing home residents of the Parish. Training is provided.

Prayer Chain

Prayer & Devotional

The Prayer Chain offers prayers for specific intentions requested by parishioners. A phone call begins a chain of spiritual support to those in need.

St. Benedict Charities

Other

Provides emergency assistance to the less fortunate residents of our neighborhood for numerous needs on an ongoing basis. Supported by parishioners and other donations.

Ushers/Greeters

Liturgical

Ushers are the official hosts of the weekend liturgies. By their presence, conversation and actions, they make all who come feel welcomed. In addition to distributing the bulletins, they collect the offering, assist with seating and maintain a safe environment.

Women's Group

Worship Commission (Regional)

Liturgical

The Worship Commission plans and coordinates regular and special liturgical celebrations throughout the year and oversees the liturgical ministries. Comprised of members from both St. Mary and St. Benedict.

Youth Group

Youth & Young Adult

Our youth ministry is grounded in the mission of Jesus and the Church, directed toward growth in Christian Discipleship. Fosters total personal and spiritual growth through catechesis, prayer and worship, evangelization, pastoral care, leadership development, community life, and social justice.
