Bishop of Nova Iguaçu
Gilson Andrade da Silva is Bishop of Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gilson Andrade da Silva was born on 11 September 1966 in Rio de Janeiro, in the archdiocese of the same name. He completed Philosophy studies at the Diocesan Seminary of Petrópolis from 1985 to 1987 and Theology studies at the University of Navarra in Spain from 1988 to 1991. He then obtained a licentiate in Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome from 1997 to 1999. On 4 August 1991 he received priestly ordination and was incardinated in the Diocese of Petrópolis, where he held the following roles: vice rector from 1992 to 1997 and from 1999 to 2004, and then rector from 2004 to 2011, of Nossa Senhora do Amor Divino Seminary; parochial vicar of Sant'Ana and São Joaquim in Petrópolis from 1991 to 1994; professor of Philosophy and Theology at the Catholic University of Petrópolis from 2000 to 2011; director of the Institute of Theology, Philosophy, and Human Sciences of the Catholic University of Petrópolis from 2004 to 2005; member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council; diocesan coordinator of youth ministry; member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors. On 27 July 2011 he was appointed titular bishop of Noba and auxiliary bishop of São Salvador da Bahia, receiving episcopal ordination on the following 24 September.
