Bishop Benoît Bertrand

Benoît Bertrand is Bishop of Pontoise, France, and has served at Pontoise since 2024. He was born on 01 June 1960, was ordained a priest on 29 June 1991, was appointed bishop on 17 January 2019, and was consecrated bishop on 03 March 2019. His responsibilities include vice-president of the permanent council of the French Bishops' Conference, vice-president of the French Bishops' Conference, and vice-president of the presidency of the French Bishops' Conference. He is a member of the Council of Christian Churches in France, the dialogue body between the Holy See, the Catholic Church in France, and the French government, the Conference of Religious Leaders in France, and the Communication Council. His formation included the University of Nantes, Faculty of Pharmacy; the Pontifical Gregorian University in theology in Rome; the Pontifical Lateran University, John Paul II Institute, in Rome; and the French Seminary in Rome. His ministries included professor at the interdiocesan seminary in Angers (1994 - 1996), professor at the interdiocesan seminary in Nantes (1996 - 2004), superior of the Saint-Jean interdiocesan seminary in Nantes (2004 - 2010), vicar general of Nantes (2010 - 2019), Bishop of Mende (2019 - 2024), member of the doctrinal commission (2019 - 2022), and president of the doctrinal commission (2022 - 2025).
