Bishop of Santo Amaro
Msgr. Giuseppe Negri, P.I.M.E., was born on September 19, 1959, in Milan, Italy. He made his religious profession in the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (P.I.M.E.) on December 7, 1985, and was ordained a priest on June 7, 1986. He studied Philosophy (1980–1982) and Theology (1983–1986) at the P.I.M.E. seminary in Monza and obtained a Licentiate and Doctorate in Psychology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1995–1999). During his priestly ministry, he held the following positions: Parochial Vicar in Frutal, in the Archdiocese of Uberaba (1987); Spiritual Director of the P.I.M.E. Minor Seminary in Palhoça (1987–1988); Parish Priest of the São Judas Tadeu and São João Batista parish in the Archdiocese of Florianópolis (1987–1990); Rector and subsequently Spiritual Director of the P.I.M.E. Philosophy Seminary (1990–1995 and 2002–2005); P.I.M.E. Regional Councilor for the Brazil South Region (1992–1995); Spiritual Director of the P.I.M.E. Theology Seminary in Monza, Italy (1999–2002); P.I.M.E. Regional Councilor for the Northern Italy Region (2000–2002); Professor in São Paulo at the Higher Course on Formative Counseling (2003–2005); Vice-Provincial of P.I.M.E. for the Brazil South Region (2004–2005); and Parish Administrator and subsequently Parish Priest of the São Judas Tadeu parish in Brusque, in the Diocese of Blumenau (2005). On December 14, 2005, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Puppi and Auxiliary Bishop of Florianópolis, and he received episcopal ordination on March 5, 2006. On February 18, 2009, he was transferred to the Diocese of Blumenau.
