Bishop Fidel León Cadavid Marin

Fidel León Cadavid Marin is Bishop of Sonsón-Rionegro, Colombia. Priestly ordination: 1976-12-05. Episcopal ordination: 2001-09-22. Monsignor Fidel León Cadavid Marín was born in Bello, Antioquia, on 3 July 1951. He completed primary studies at the school of the Pontifical Bolivarian University and secondary studies at the minor seminary of the Archdiocese of Medellín. He obtained a licentiate in philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Bolivarian University of Medellín and a licentiate in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He received priestly ordination on 5 December 1976. In the exercise of ministry as a priest he successively held the following offices: coadjutor vicar in the parish of Santa Bárbara, then Archdiocese of Medellín; professor at the major seminary of Medellín; parish priest of Sierra, Popayán; professor at the major seminary of Cali; parish priest of Santa Bárbara; rector of Santa Cruz Major Seminary of Caldas; diocesan treasurer and parish priest of the Cathedral of Caldas; and parish priest of Santa Ana in Fredonia. He was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Medellín, but when the Diocese of Caldas was created in 1988 he became part of the clergy of the latter. On 25 July 2001, His Holiness John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Quibdó. He was ordained bishop on 22 September 2001. On 2 February 2011 he was appointed Bishop of Sonsón-Rionegro. He took canonical possession of the diocese on 18 March in the Cathedral of Rionegro and the following day in the Cathedral of Sonsón.
