Archbishop of Dakar
André Gueye was born on January 6, 1967, in Pallo-Younga. He pursued his philosophical studies at the Major Seminary of Sebikhotane in Dakar and at the seminary in Brin, Ziguinchor. He studied theology at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome while residing at the Pontifical Urban College. He was ordained a priest on June 27, 1992, in the Cathedral of Thiès. He held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of Sainte Croix in Bambey (1992–1997); Parochial Vicar of Sainte Anne Cathedral in Thiès (1997–2004); Parish Priest of Sainte Croix in Bambey (2004–2006); and Philosophy teacher at the St. Jean Marie Vianney Major Seminary in Brin, Diocese of Ziguinchor (2006–2012). Elected Bishop of Thiès on January 18, 2013, he was consecrated on May 25 of that year. Since January 12, 2023, he has served as Apostolic Administrator of Saint-Louis du Sénégal.
