Bishop of Kielce
Bishop Jan Piotrowski, Bishop of Kielce, was born on January 5, 1953, in Szczurowa, in the Diocese of Tarnów. Having passed his secondary school examinations, he was admitted in 1972 to the major seminary of Tarnów. He was ordained a priest for Tarnów on May 25, 1980. After ordination he served as parochial vicar at Przecław and in the parish of the Holy Spirit at Mielec (1980-1984). Following preparation at the Missionary Formation Centre in Warsaw, he worked as a missionary in Congo-Brazzaville (1985-1991). From 1991 to 1997 he was national secretary of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith. He studied missiology for two years at the Institut Catholique in Paris and in 1997 obtained a doctorate in missiology from the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw. He was a missionary in Peru from 1999 to 2000, and from 2000 to 2010 national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. From 2009 to 2013 he was parish priest of St. Margaret's parish in Nowy Sącz. In 2004 he was named a chaplain of His Holiness. On December 14, 2013, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Sinitis and Auxiliary Bishop of Tarnów. He received episcopal ordination on January 25, 2014, at Tarnów, with Andrzej Jeż as principal consecrator and Celestino Migliore and Władysław Bobowski as co-consecrators. On October 11, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Kielce, and he was installed on November 29, 2014. Within the Polish Episcopal Conference he has served as a member of the commission for the missions.
