Faith responds to God’s revelation and leads humanity toward communion, happiness, and love of the Creator. Scripture, Tradition, and the Church’s teaching authority present one saving plan fulfilled in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. The Catechism’s four pillars are the Creed, the sacraments, the life guided by the Commandments, and the Lord’s Prayer. It confesses the Trinity, creation and providence, humanity’s dignity as body and soul made in God’s image, the fall and original sin, and Christ’s Incarnation, obedient Passion, Resurrection, Ascension, and return in glory. The Church is Christ’s Body and Bride, one, holy, catholic, and apostolic, with the Spirit as its life; through its ministries, saints, mission, and communion, it gathers humanity into salvation. The seven sacraments make Christ’s saving work present, initiate and nourish Christian life, heal sin and illness, and order service, vocation, and family life. Moral teaching forms conscience and virtue, directs freedom toward truth and goodness, protects human dignity and life, and applies the Commandments to sexuality, property, social justice, truthful speech, and care for creation. Christian hope looks toward judgment, resurrection, heaven, purification, and the renewal of creation. Prayer, nourished by Scripture and liturgy, becomes communion with the Trinity through blessing, adoration, petition, intercession, thanksgiving, praise, and repentance. The Lord’s Prayer gathers this life into seven petitions for God’s holiness, kingdom, and will, and for daily bread, forgiveness, protection from temptation, and deliverance from evil.
