The March 1934 issue records the Holy See’s principal canonical, administrative, liturgical, and judicial acts. It opens with the canonization of Maria Bernarda (Bernadette) Soubirous, recalling the Lourdes apparitions, her religious life in Nevers, the miracles attributed to her intercession, and Pope Pius XI’s decree assigning her feast to 16 April. It also establishes the Abbey of St Jerome in Rome under Benedictine direction to revise the Vulgate, and authorizes the beatification of the Jesuit martyrs Rochus Gonzalez de Santa Cruz, Alfonsus Rodriguez, and Ioannes del Castillo, killed during missionary work in South America. Other decrees condemn Alfred Rosenberg’s Der Mythus des 20. Jahrhunderts and Ernst Bergmann’s Die deutsche Nationalkirche for rejecting Christian doctrine and promoting racial or nationalist alternatives. The issue announces consistories and procedures for the causes of Teresa Margaret Redi, Joseph Benedict Cottolengo, Conrad of Parzham, and others, confirms miracles supporting Teresa Margaret’s canonization, and grants indulgences for prayers before the Crucifix and in honour of Christ’s Passion. Extensive Roman Rota listings report marriage-nullity and procedural decisions involving force, fear, impotence, consent, and exclusion of children. The Pontifical Biblical Commission censures Fridericus Schmidtke’s rationalist treatment of Israel’s entry into Canaan and reaffirms the Church’s authority over biblical interpretation. A funeral oration mourns King Albert I of Belgium, while final notices cover appointments, episcopal deaths, examinations, and Vatican publications.
