Pope Francis presents the command to be “merciful like the Father” as a lifelong vocation rather than a slogan. Christian perfection is expressed through merciful love: forgiving others, giving generously, and suspending judgment in order to preserve human relationships. Although no person can equal God’s infinite mercy, each Christian and the Church is called to become a living witness and channel of divine compassion for a suffering humanity.
