John Paul II welcomes the young people of Zimbabwe as brothers and sisters united by baptism in Christ. He presents Jesus as their living friend, whose unconditional love remains present through the Church, the sacraments, and the Eucharist despite the centuries separating them from his earthly life. Serving other people, he explains, is therefore a direct way of loving and serving Jesus himself.
