Document summary
Jesus responds to a widow’s grief by approaching her dead son’s bier and restoring him to life. Pope Francis presents this scene as revealing faith as personal encounter rather than mere observance of rules: Christ sees human suffering, shares it with tenderness, and crosses social boundaries to draw near. His command not to weep expresses the Lord’s victory over death and his promise to wipe away every tear.
