Bishop of San Luis
Bishop Gabriel Bernardo Barba, Bishop of San Luis, Argentina, was born in Morón, Buenos Aires, on 24 April 1964. He completed primary studies at Colegio Inmaculada in Castelar and secondary studies at Colegio Marista San José in Morón. In 1984 he entered San José Seminary in Morón, the diocese for which he was ordained a priest on 12 August 1989. After the erection of the diocese of Merlo-Moreno in 1997, he was incardinated there and carried out the following ministries: parochial vicar of San Judas Tadeo in 1989 and of San Francisco de Asís in 1990; parish administrator from 1991 to 1992 and then pastor in 1995 of Cristo del Perdón; secretary of the Episcopal Vicariate for Youth from 1993 to 1996; chancellor of the diocesan curia from 1997 to 2005; member of the college of consultors from 1998 and of the presbyteral council from 2001; instructor of the diocesan judicial commission from 1999 and of priestly causes from 2001; director of the diaconal school and person in charge of the formation of permanent deacons from 2008; vice president of diocesan Caritas from 2004 to 2009; pro-vicar general in 2006; and vicar general and moderator of the curia from 2007. In 2000 he obtained a licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. He is a professor of Canon Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina.
