Archbishop of Pittsburgh (Ruthenian)
William C. Skurla was born on June 1, 1956. He pursued theological studies at the Washington Theological Union in Washington, D.C., and at the Vincentian Seminary in Palmerston, Pennsylvania. His religious formation was guided by the Byzantine Franciscans of the Order of Friars Minor, within which he was ordained a priest on May 23, 1987. He served as Director of Vocations at the Dormition Monastery in Sybertsville. Following his subsequent incardination into the Eparchy of Van Nuys on November 1, 1993, he served as pastor of St. Melania Church in Tucson, Arizona, as well as an eparchial consultor. On February 19, 2002, the Holy Father John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Van Nuys for the Ruthenians. He received episcopal ordination on April 23, 2002.
