Bishop Pierre-André Dumas

Pierre-André Dumas was born in Saint-Jean du Sud, in the Diocese of Les Cayes, on September 26, 1962. After completing his primary education with the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Les Cayes and his secondary education at the "Pétion" Lyceum in Port-au-Prince, he spent a year in Taizé (France). In 1985, he entered the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary in Rome as a student; he studied philosophy at the Pontifical Lateran University, earning a Baccalaureate, and theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, where he also obtained a Baccalaureate. Subsequently, he earned a Licentiate in Biblical Theology. During his studies, from 1990 to 1994, he served as a formator at the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary. He was ordained a priest in St. Peter's Basilica on May 26, 1991, for the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. Upon returning to Haiti, he held the following positions: co-director of the Jacquet Propaedeutic Seminary in the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince and parochial vicar of Saint-Pierre Parish in Pétion-Ville (1995–1997); and Vice-Rector of the "Notre Dame" Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Port-au-Prince (1997). Since 1998, he has served as Rector of the "Notre-Dame" Major Seminary. He is also a professor of theology at the same Major Seminary and at the "Notre-Dame d'Haiti" Catholic University, where he is a key figure in university pastoral ministry.
