Archbishop of Seoul
Peter Chung Soon-taek, O.C.D., was born on August 5, 1961, in Daegu, within the archdiocese of the same name. He initially studied Chemical Engineering at Seoul National University (1983–1986). Subsequently, he received his philosophical and theological training at the Catholic University of Seoul (Major Seminary) (1986–1992). He made his perpetual profession in the Order of Discalced Carmelites (O.C.D.) on January 25, 1992, and was ordained a priest on July 16, 1992. Following his priestly ordination, he held the following positions: 1993–1997: Novice Master; 1997–1998: Master of Students; 1999–2004: Studies in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, obtaining a Licentiate; 2005–2008: Provincial Definitor of the Discalced Carmelites of Korea; 2008–2009: First Definitor of the Discalced Carmelites of Korea; since 2009: General Definitor in Rome, responsible for the Far East and Oceania region.
