Archbishop of Nyeri
Anthony Muheria was born on May 27, 1963, in Kaburugi, in what was then the Diocese of Nyeri (now the Diocese of Murang’a). After completing his secondary education, he studied engineering at the University of Nairobi, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree and a Licentiate in Civil Engineering. He worked for five years as an engineering consultant for a private firm. After joining Opus Dei, he was sent to Rome to study at the University of the Holy Cross, where he earned first a Licentiate and then a Doctorate in Theology. He was ordained a priest in Rome on June 13, 1993. Upon returning to his home country in 1995, he was assigned to the Prelature’s regional offices as Head of the Education Department, overseeing programs for the human, professional, doctrinal, and spiritual formation of all Opus Dei members. He also provided spiritual guidance to young people in Opus Dei schools and institutes and conducted spiritual retreats.
