Bishop of
Bishop Matthias Du Jiang, Bishop of Bameng, was born on November 20, 1963, at Qahar Right Rear Banner, in Inner Mongolia. He was ordained a priest on July 16, 1989. He was ordained a bishop on May 7, 2004, at Bameng, with the approval of the Holy See, with John Liu Shigong as principal consecrator and John Baptist Liu Jingshan and Francis Tong Hui as co-consecrators. For several years afterwards the civil authorities, although they acknowledged that he had been chosen by the Catholic community, did not recognise him as a bishop, and he was therefore unable to exercise his episcopal ministry publicly. He was publicly installed as Bishop of Bameng on April 8, 2010, in the cathedral of Sanshenggong, after the document of the Chinese bishops' conference recognising him was read out.
