Bishop of Nicosia
Giuseppe Schillaci was born on January 8, 1958, in Adrano, in the province and Metropolitan Archdiocese of Catania. After completing his secondary education and studying philosophy at the University of Catania, he began his formation at the Pontifical French Seminary in Rome. He earned a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was ordained a priest on July 4, 1987, and incardinated into the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Catania. Following his ordination, he served as an assistant pastor and then pastor in Adrano (1988–1992), vice-rector of the seminary (1994–1998), episcopal vicar for culture (1999–2006), and vice-dean of the San Paolo Theological Institute in Catania (1999–2007). From 2008, he served as rector of the Archbishop's Seminary of Catania. Elected Bishop of Lamezia Terme on May 3, 2019, he received episcopal consecration on July 6 of that year. He currently serves as Secretary of the Calabrian Episcopal Conference.
