Bishop of Caraguatatuba
José Carlos Chacorowski, C.M., is Bishop of Caraguatatuba, São Paulo, Brazil. He was born on 26 December 1956 in Curitiba, State of Paraná. He entered the Congregation of the Mission, the Lazarists, on 15 January 1977, made religious vows on 16 April 1980, and was ordained a priest by Pope John Paul II on 2 July 1980 in Rio de Janeiro. He completed higher studies and philosophy at Seminário São Vicente de Paulo in Araucária and obtained a baccalaureate in theology at the Studium Theologicum in Curitiba. He also completed courses in creativity, vocal technique, dynamic reading, basic public speaking, and human relations, as well as a French-language course in Brussels and a course at the International Formation Center in Paris. After priestly ordination, he served as formator in the diocesan seminary of Palmas, rendered in the other Holy See source as Palmas-Francisco Beltrão, from 1980 to 1982; missionary in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 1982 to 1987; officer for pastoral care of itinerants from 1987 to 1996; national adviser of Juventude Marial Vicentina and director of the Daughters of Charity of the Province of Curitiba from 1996 to 2005, with the later source also referring to the Daughters of Charity in Belém do Pará; and parish priest of Senhor Bom Jesus dos Perdões Parish in Guaraqueçaba, rendered as Guaranaçaba in the later source, in the Diocese of Paranaguá from 2005 to 2009. The earlier Holy See source says that at that time he was director of the Daughters of Charity of the Province of Amazônia in the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará. On 22 December 2010 he was appointed titular bishop of Case nere and auxiliary bishop of São Luís do Maranhão, and he received episcopal ordination on 19 February 2011.
