Archbishop of Freetown
Charles Edward Tamba was born on April 18, 1956, in Kainkordu, Kono District, in the Diocese of Kenema. After completing his secondary education, he attended St. Kizito Pre-Seminary in Kenema in 1977 and, from 1978 to 1985, Saint Paul’s Major Seminary in Gbarnga. He was ordained a priest on April 4, 1986, in Kono and incardinated into the Diocese of Kenema. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1986–89: Assistant Administrator of the Cathedral at St. Paul’s Cathedral Parish; 1989–91: Philosophy teacher at St. Paul’s Major Seminary (Gbarnga, Liberia, and Makeni, Sierra Leone); 1991–96: Studies for the Licentiate and Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology at the Gregorian University; 1996–98: Vice-Rector at St. Paul’s Major Seminary, Makeni, Sierra Leone; 1998–2002: Acting Rector at St. Paul’s Major Seminary, Freetown, Sierra Leone; from 2000: Rector of St. Paul’s Major Seminary, Freetown, Sierra Leone.
