Bishop of Trujillo
José Trinidad Fernández Angulo was born on May 24, 1964, in the city of Mérida (in the diocese of the same name) and was ordained a priest there on July 30, 1989. After completing his studies at the Minor Seminary of the Archdiocese of Mérida, he moved to the Major Seminary for the three-year philosophy program. For his theological studies, he transferred to the "Santo Tomás de Aquino" Ecclesiastical University Institute in the Diocese of San Cristóbal. Later, he obtained a Licentiate in Philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In the Archdiocese of Mérida, he served as a professor at the Minor Seminary, Archdiocesan Advisor for youth and vocational ministry, and both Director of Studies and Vice-Rector of the Major Seminary. In the Archdiocese of Caracas, he held the following positions: Vice-Rector of San José Seminary; Vice-Rector for Philosophy at Santa Rosa de Lima Major Seminary; Director of Research at Santa Rosa de Lima University; and formator and subsequently Vice-Rector of Santa Rosa de Lima Major Seminary; he has served as Rector of the latter institution since 2009.
