Bishop of Bridgeport
Frank Joseph Caggiano is Bishop of Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. He was born on 29 March 1959 in Brooklyn. After attending Saints Simon and Jude elementary school and Regis High School in Manhattan, he went to Cathedral College in Douglaston. He studied theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, obtaining the Master of Divinity. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn on 16 May 1987. After priestly ordination he was vicar in the parishes of Saint Agatha (1987-1989), Saint Athanasius (1989-1992), and Saint Jude (1996-1998) in Brooklyn. From 1992 to 1996 he studied in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University, where he obtained a doctorate in Sacred Theology. He then served as pastor of Saint Dominic Parish in Brooklyn (1998-2003) and, from 2003 to 2007, as Vicar for Evangelization and Pastoral Life of the Diocese of Brooklyn. From 2007 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Appointed titular Bishop of Inis Cathaig and Auxiliary of Brooklyn on 6 June 2006, he was consecrated on 22 August of the same year. Within the Episcopal Conference he was a member of the Subcommittee on the Catechism. In addition to English, he speaks Italian.
