Bishop of Irapuato
Bishop Enrique Díaz Díaz, Bishop of Irapuato, was born on June 13, 1952, in Huandacareo, in the Archdiocese of Morelia. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the major seminary of Morelia. From 1991 to 1994 he was a student of the Pontifical Mexican College in Rome, attending the Pontifical Biblical Institute, where he obtained a licentiate in sacred scripture, and he subsequently perfected his studies in Jerusalem. He was ordained a priest for Morelia on October 23, 1977. After ordination he served as parochial vicar and as a teacher at the major seminary of Morelia. He was parish priest of Tzintzuntzan (1987-1991) and of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Morelia (1997-2000), and in 2000 was appointed episcopal vicar for a large pastoral zone. On April 30, 2003, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Izirzada and Auxiliary Bishop of San Cristóbal de Las Casas. He received episcopal ordination on July 10, 2003, with Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel as principal consecrator and Giuseppe Bertello and Alberto Suárez Inda as co-consecrators. On May 15, 2014, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of San Cristóbal de Las Casas. On March 11, 2017, he was appointed Bishop of Irapuato, and he was installed on May 19, 2017.
